A group of Young Public Service Leaders were lucky enough to have a first look at Spacecubed mid construction and hear about some of the great organisations and individuals that will be working in the space. The group had a complete tour of the space, and were able to ask any questions to the SiiWA team, before heading to the Supreme Court Gardens to hear a presentation from Brodie McCulloch, ‘Deliberately Co-creating Western Australia’s Future’.
During the presentation, Brodie highlighted that Western Australia is experiencing rapid growth which provides enormous opportunity to position the State as a global leader in a range of industries and sectors. But, as a state, we need to understand what the vision for the future is, where we will get it from. How we want Western Australia to be recognised in 30 years time. The group were able to ask Brodie questions, and how Spacecubed will be able to allow for this vision to be realised and achieved.
“Community, Business, Not for Profit and Government need to be working to co-design, co-create and co-deliver the mechanisms, organisations and systems that are going to meet growing demands and deliberately build a Western Australia we want to see…let’s get started now.” – Brodie McCulloch

After the presentation, the group were able to move on to Helvetica, for a chance to mingle and enjoy a drink and nibbles together. The event was organised by Institute of Public Administration Australia and we thank them for their hard work in making it happen.

MOTIVATED by a desire to get people inspired, informed, and engaged with world-shaping, life-changing ideas — TEDxWhadjuk is starting in Perth next month.
Held at the University of Western Australia on March 26th, the locally-flavoured program of events will present speakers offering free knowledge on topics as diverse as the future of social media, attitudes towards Aboriginal people and biodiversity.
Mack truck accident survivor and subsequent triathlete champion, Jasmin Dillon will be speaking from experience on the power of the mind and bodily energy to facilitate positive change.
With a catch-cry of “ideas worth spreading”, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience http://www.ted.com/ .
Western Australia’s reputation as a rapidly expanding mining and infrastructure hub has long drawn attention from social, community and government groups alike.
With this in mind, TEDxWhadjuk organisers have posed a key question – “With resources and wealth comes responsibility – so what is YOUR idea worth spreading?”
Keep following SiiWA for more updates on TEDxWhadjuk (Whadjuk is the traditional, indigenous name for the Perth region) and a full list of speakers and topics.

Who should attend:
- Anyone interested to learn more about Social Innovation

Keynote Speaker:
Brenton Caffin is the founding CEO of The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI), which exists to identify and support the innovative ideas, methods and people that will contribute to and accelerate positive social change in Australia.
Beyond CSR: leveraging corporate assets for social innovation
Corporate Social Responsibility has had a pretty patchy record in Australia over the last couple of decades. While there have been some great success stories, all too often Corporate Social Responsibility is seen at best as a ‘nice-to-have’ luxury and at worst gratuitous window dressing to avoid criticism and attract employees. However, large organisations, including public sector agencies, have incredible potential to leverage their assets and purchasing power to achieve positive social change. Indeed the back office may be front-line staff’s best weapon in addressing disadvantage in our community and creating lasting public value.

Feedback and contributions will inform and shape future policy directions and how we work with you. We will also utilise the site for formal consultations and other processes.
We hope that contributions to the forum will also be used by other participants to create a peer learning network in which new ideas and approaches are shared and participants build new networks for collaboration and support. As a vital collaboration space, the forum is not intended to be a focus for formal government responses to advocacy or for requests for funding.
About the fund
The Social Enterprise Development and Investment Fund (SEDIF) will provide financial products and related capacity building to social enterprises in Australia.
The Government has allocated $20 million as a cornerstone contribution, to be used in partnership with private and philanthropic investment, to seed the establishment of specialised investment funds that assist social enterprises with their growth capital finance and support needs.
This action is aimed at stimulating the social impact investment market in Australia through increasing access to capital for social enterprises as they work to create jobs and support highly disadvantaged people and communities throughout Australia.
The SEDIF will contribute to development of a powerful social sector capable of playing a significant role alongside Government in improving the lives of individuals and communities and tackling social issues.

This is short notice but SiiWA has been offered two tables at Inventing the Future of Energy: How do we ensure key community requirements are met?
Full details are below but the event has some of the leading innovative and knowledgeable thinkers from the United States and Australia on how we can best shape our energy future.
Usually tickets are $370 however I can offer you a significant discount at only $70 each. Places are limited and I need to have a RSVP by 9:00am Monday 17th of Wednesday (this coming Wednesday) to confirm the tables.
The social impact of a shortage of energy is already being felt in WA and is going to be an increasing area of concern that provides ample opportunity to Social Entrepreneurs and Innovators.
Once again the discount is significant but I need an email response to brodie.mcculloch@siiwa.org by 9:00am Monday morning at the latest.
We seem to have come to a general consensus that we need to do something about our level of energy consumption in the developed world, but what should that something be? What does our pattern of energy consumption – and production – need to look like as we Invent the Future and Shape Western Australia from 2010 to 2050? Join CEDA WA to discuss, with some of the most innovative and knowledgeable thinkers from the United States and Australia, how we can best shape our energy future.
