Spacecubed hosts Young Public Service Leaders

A group of Young Public Service Leaders were lucky enough to have a first look at Spacecubed mid construction and hear about some of the great organisations and individuals that will be working in the space. The group had a complete tour of the space, and were able to ask any questions to the SiiWA team, before heading to the Supreme Court Gardens to hear a presentation from Brodie McCulloch, ‘Deliberately Co-creating Western Australia’s Future’.

During the presentation, Brodie highlighted that Western Australia is experiencing rapid growth which provides enormous opportunity to position the State as a global leader in a range of industries and sectors. But, as a state, we need to understand what the vision for the future is, where we will get it from. How we want Western Australia to be recognised in 30 years time. The group were able to ask Brodie questions, and how Spacecubed will be able to allow for this vision to be realised and achieved.

“Community, Business, Not for Profit and Government need to be working to co-design, co-create and co-deliver the mechanisms, organisations and systems that are going to meet growing demands and deliberately build a Western Australia we want to see…let’s get started now.”  – Brodie McCulloch

After the presentation, the group were able to move on to Helvetica, for a chance to mingle and enjoy a drink and nibbles together. The event was organised by Institute of Public Administration Australia and we thank them for their hard work in making it happen.

Social Innovation in a Hyperconnected World – Monday 26th September 2011

Ehon ChanOn Monday September 26th we have the first of our semi-regular sundowners when someone is in town or someone from around town wants to start a conversation around emerging trends in the Social Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship and Social Enterprise space. The format will be a 15 – 20 min talk, some questions then meeting other social entrepreneurs and people doing great stuff around Perth and WA.

We are tentatively calling this “Social Session”…if you can think of a better name let us know…details below:

Session

In a hyperconnected world, innovation is happening at a quicker rate and beyond the boundaries of physical spaces. The best of innovation will happen at the convergences of people, resources and institutional support. The traditional structure of institution will become obsolete and innovation will not be led by those we traditionally view as “geniuses”.

So what does this mean for social entrepreneurs and social innovation? How can we harness this hyperconnectedness for social good and social change, and more importantly, how can we accelerate social innovation in a rapidly changing, hyperconnected economy?

For

  • Social Entrepreneurs
  • Social Intrapreneurs (Entrepreneurs within big orginations e.g. government, corporates)
  • Forward thinkers and change makers

Presenter

Ehon Chan has passion for entrepreneurial and innovative approaches to social impact. His work has focused on harnessing the social impact of digital technology and new media for social change. As the co-founder of News Unlimited, Youth Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Brisbane and GetClassmate, he has been known as a social entrepreneur, innovator, “digital branding professional” (news.com.au) and named one of the “world’s most inspiring young achiever and innovator under 30″ (Sandbox Network). He is currently the Founder and Chief Executive of Spur Projects, a startup in its incubation stage.

When and Where

Location: TBA

Time / Date: 6:00pm – Monday 26th September
